  • Welcome from the Headteacher
    Dear parents, guardians and pupils,

It is an honour to undertake the Headteacher role during Mr Mark Jones’ secondment to Welsh Government and we wish him every success.

I would like to congratulate all learners on their achievements in this year's examinations. It was a privilege to be in school on A Level and GCSE results days to share the success and joy of our students. Their success is due to hard work and the support and dedication of a great team of staff at the school. We are also grateful for your key role as parents in the aspiration, discipline and success of our children. I look forward to building and developing our relationship over the year.

My priority is to ensure the best for our pupils, staff and school and that we continue to improve in all aspects. We will continue to ensure the highest standards of education, care and support for our pupils and lead and encourage them to be ambitious, to make progress and to take advantage of every opportunity to realise their potential.

With our dedicated and enthusiastic staff and creative, enterprising pupils, we will go from strength to strength and ensure continued success for all stakeholders of the school.

Our pupils have one chance at education. It is an incredible privilege to be in a position to make a difference to them, to mold their future and, more than that, it is our duty to make the effort.

I am convinced that I can rely on your continued support in this.

At the beginning of the new year, I would draw your attention to some important events in the coming term:

    1) 16-09-19 – INSET – school closed to pupils

  • End of the 2019 academic year

    Dear Parents and Pupils

As another busy year comes to an end, I would like to thank you for your dedication and support over the past year. We have again seen considerable changes to the school as we implement further developments towards meeting the requirements of the new curriculum and as we begin the work of formulating the school's vision for the future.

We look forward to welcoming around 70% of year 11 pupils back to sixth form, the largest figure for several years. We are also implementing an options system for year 9 pupils and also ensuring that our learners continue to follow each of the six areas of learning and the experience of the new curriculum. We also continue to mature our curriculum in years 7 and 8 incorporating the six areas of learning and experience.

We have had a new 3G pitch and we look forward to the second phase of developments where we will also have a new sports hall.

The school is now financially stable and we are able to invest in staff development and refurbishment of the site, including being part of planning for major new buildings to meet the growth in pupil numbers including those returning to sixth form and the pupils joining us in year 7.

It is anticipated that there will be nearly 1200 pupils at the school within the next five years. There is an exciting future ahead!

However, I am sure that you are already aware that I will not be leading the school over the next year or two. I will be working on a 1-2 year secondment with the Welsh Government working with the Professional Learning Department to lead a project on developing resources to support teachers' professional development in preparation for the new curriculum.

As a result, Miss Lisa Williams will lead the school as Acting Headteacher during this time, with the assistance of Mr Eilir Jones as acting Deputy Headteacher. I wish them all the best as they undertake their new duties from September onwards.

I wish everyone a happy and safe summer holiday.

    Best wishes

    Mark Jones
