![]() This decision was outlined to me as Headteacher of Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun in the County Council’s “Welsh Education Strategic Plan 2014-2017”. This decision to withdraw transport clearly contradicts the Welsh Assembly Government’s plans to safeguard and develop Welsh Medium education. The implications of this recommendation mean that post-16 pupils will not be able to access education at Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun. This will clearly have a hugely negative effect on Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun and, more importantly, on the future of Welsh Medium provision within Merthyr Tydfil. It was only on Monday January 20th that the web link was released in order for the public to voice our concerns and the public consultation period ends on Friday February 3rd, 2014.
I strongly urge everyone who reads this and who cares about Welsh Medium education to respond via this link. http://www.merthyr.gov.uk/English/CouncilAndDemocracy/Consultations/Pages/ServiceChangeProposal.aspx Hywel Price Headteacher 21 January 2014 |
