01.09.21 **IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PUPILS TRAVELLING TO SCHOOL BY CAR**

posted 1 Sept 2021, 04:18 by Betsan Jones

As outlined in the guidelines that were published last week, due to the extensive building work that has started on site (please see the pictures attached), changes must be made regarding visitors to the school and particularly the arrangements for vehicles dropping off pupils in the morning or collecting pupils in the afternoon.

Please note, if you are picking up your child in the afternoon by car, you will not be able to enter the site before 15:15.

The arrangements can be found in the letter that was sent via ClassCharts as part of the guidelines last week. It can be found below. It is very important that you read this information.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

It’s been 25 years since Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Rhydywaun opened its doors for the first time; and since August 1st 2021 we have embarked on an exciting new development on our campus.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Education Department is financing and managing the build of a substantial new teaching block for the school which will include extensive sports facilities and state of the art drama, music and teaching resources. This vast new teaching block is being built on the areas of the past visitor carpark, caretaker’s house, roundabout, main road on campus and all parking areas leading down to the school.

Consequently, RCT Education Department wish us to inform you that changes have to be made regarding visitors to the school and particularly the arrangements for vehicles dropping off pupils in the morning or collecting pupils in the afternoon.

The necessary changes for all vehicles are outlined below:

Morning: Pupil drop off will be in the bus bays. Please be aware of the buses driving up to their designated drop off point and ensure you follow the directions & instructions of the traffic management team.

Afternoon: Arrive on site after 3.15pm and collect pupils from the same area as the morning drop off.

As we have 19 buses and only 19 bus bays, there are no spaces available for vehicles to park/wait before 3.15pm. From September, lessons will finish at 3.00pm with all buses normally leaving the site by 3.15pm. At this point we will have space on site for other vehicles to collect pupils.

We ask for your full co-operation in this matter and for you to consider the residents of Lawrence Avenue and the buses driving out of the site.

The main school gate and entry to the site will be managed by the building contractors and they will not admit any cars on site before the buses have left.

The second gate will be locked throughout the day and only opened to Rhydywaun staff and school deliveries.

Arriving before 3.15pm will cause needless problems, unnecessary distress and unease for drivers. As usual, members of staff will be present until all pupils have been collected.

We are grateful for your full co-operation on this matter. Over the course of the next 10 months, as the building is completed, we anticipate RCT will adapt this plan and we will inform you of the changes immediately.

Diolch yn fawr,

Miss Lisa Williams
