Year 9 Pupils' 'Big Bang'

A group of Year 9 More Able and Talented pupils took part in an engineering challenge at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea last month. The competition was called 'The Big Bang' and the pupils were challenged to create a model and present their work to the competition judges, the Deputy Minister for Skills Jeff Cuthbert and the TV presenter Gazz Top.
The Rhydywaun pupils were up against some stiff competition from a total of 78 groups from all over Wales, some of whom included students up to eighteen years of age, so they were delighted to come away with two awards - the Bronze CREST Award and the Gold Award in the Eco House competition! What an achievement!

Mr Cenwyn Brain was very proud of their communication skills and the way in which the pupils presented their arguments to the panel on the day in a very mature fashion. Unfortunately they just missed out on being chosen to represent Wales in the British competition, but the pupils will make good use of the £180 prize money to compete again next year! Many thanks to Mr Brain, Mr Kevin Davies, Mr Meaker and Mr Maliphant for their hard work, and congratulations to the Year 9 pupils!
